Sociotherapeutic measures and counseling

The main goal of sociotherapy is to support patients and their relatives in their reintegration into professional, family, and social life. With this goal in mind, disease-related strains have to be identified and solution strategies developed together.

What does sociotherapeutic support entail?

As an integral part of comprehensive psychiatric treatment, social pedagogues provide advice and point out support options in case of conflicts and stress in everyday life resulting from illness. In accordance with the S3 guidelines of the DGPPN, social work encompasses all social areas such as family, work, finances, and personal interests. Counseling takes place in one-on-one interviews or with family members.

Group therapy programs

Depending on the respective ward and additional therapeutic qualifications, social pedagogues offer group therapies of their own.

In these group sessions, so-called psychoeducation is very important: patients learn all about their illness and how to live with the disease. This knowledge provides emotional relief for patients and their relatives and is therefore an important factor in overcoming the disorder.

Furthermore, group training of social skills is offered in order to change behavioral patterns that are unfavorable to social life. Especially in the context of clinical addiction therapy, it is possible to practice dealing with stress, emotions, and frustration in so-called integration groups.

Professional and social reintegration

For the members of the outpatient social psychiatric care network, our social pedagogues are important cooperation partners with respect to issues of professional and social reintegration. In cooperation with the association "Der Regenbogen e. V." - an association of friends and supporters of the psychiatric day-care clinic - outpatient help and - to a limited extent - assisted living are offered and arranged for the purpose of reintegration.

Special dementia program

For people with early stages of dementia, we offer an outpatient memory training group.

In the socio-educational consultations, patients and their relatives receive information on dementia as an illness and its effects on everyday life. In addition, possibilities of support in home care are demonstrated: for example, there are offers from Alzheimer's counseling centers, offers from welfare centers, and outpatient services. We also provide information about group offers for patients to support them in their everyday life, about visiting a day care facility, or the possibility of inpatient care.

Gerontopsychiatric counseling provides information on social law issues, such as the power of attorney, statutory care, or guidelines for long-term insurance covering care.
