PainScouts: Hands-on Classes

We regularly offer the young scientists from the CRU 5001 the opportunity to improve their scientific skills through our Hands-on Classes.

The aim of this program is to provide practical experience in a wide range of scientific techniques related to pain research.

The three-hour program – 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. – includes the following offers on Friday, April 26th, 2024:

  • Molecular players in pain resolution – behavioural and morphological analyses
  • 3D Cell Culture
  • RNA Sequencing Analysis and Single Cell
  • Immunolabeling and imaging of skin biopsies

Courses are conceived and delivered by the principal investigators and/or scientific experts from their respective working groups.

For detailed information and event location, please refer to the Hands-on Classes program.

All sessions will be face-to-face and held in English (unless explicitly stated otherwise) promoting an interactive and immersive learning environment for all participants.

Guest lecture: Building excitable membranes in sensory neurons

During Prof. Dr. Dib-Hajj's visit to the CRU 5001, the renowned pain researcher from the USA will deliver a lecture.

Changes to ion channels due to genetic or acquired mutations in specific proteins can lead to a lowering of the excitation threshold of neurons. This promotes the transmission of pain impulses and thus the development of chronic pain. In his lecture "Building excitable membranes in sensory neurons," Prof. Dib-Hajj will report on his research expertise, focusing on molecular changes, particularly those observed in sodium ion channels.

Further details about Prof. Dr. Dib Hajj´s lecture in the flyer.

Prof. Dr. Sulayman Dib-Hajj is a neurologist and pain researcher at the Yale School of Medicine in Connecticut, USA. Through several publications on the topic of ion channels and their role in the development of chronic pain, he has earned worldwide recognition in the field. He will meet with members of CRU 5001 in May for personal knowledge and information exchange.

Further details about Prof. Dr. Dib-Hajj's visit.

The guest lecture is free of charge and will be held in English. All CRU 5001 members as well as colleagues from the UKW are invited. Registration is encouraged via Ms. Brenda Gewiß (see above).
