Award as a center of excellence
As part of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Mainfranken, the university hospital's cancer medicine department, along with oncological research in Würzburg and the regional network of numerous partner institutions, was awarded the title of Oncological Center of Excellence by German Cancer Aid for the third time.
Guiding principle
The Oncology Center is committed to the mission statement of the University Hospital of Würzburg. It focuses on the following areas for the oncological care of patients and in research:
1. Continuous further development of existing interdisciplinary patient care
The focus of the diagnostic and therapeutic processes is always on the individual patient, their dignity and quality of life. We see patients and doctors as partners and see it as our duty to provide tumor patients with comprehensive information about their treatment options. We offer comprehensive care with the highest quality standards in diagnostics, therapy and aftercare, as well as palliative medical care for oncology patients. Our patients benefit directly from psycho-oncological care, socio-legal advice and recommendations from the nutrition team. In addition, the OZW provides a wide range of support services free of charge for patients, relatives and interested parties. Cooperation with self-help organizations and facilities in the surrounding area complements the care provided in the individual specialist clinics.
2. Regular information for the public
In addition to weekly courses and groups, we offer tumor patients, relatives and all interested persons regular information events on changing topics. On request, we will inform you personally by e-mail.
3. Strengthening interdisciplinary cooperation in the Oncology Center
We attach great importance to the continuous improvement of interdisciplinary cooperation based on the objectives of the national cancer plan. The treatment decision is made jointly by various specialists and represents the best individual solution.
4. Integration of regional partners
We work closely with other clinics and doctors in private practice in Würzburg and the surrounding area in order to guarantee the highest level of guideline-based care in the region.
5. Promoting the training and further education of our employees
Practical and future-oriented training, regular further education and structured training for our employees ensure quality at the OZW. This applies in particular to non-medical staff, such as study nurses, case managers, patient guides and documentation employees.
6. Research and science transfer
Basic research and application-oriented research serve the well-being of patients and are being intensively furthered. The efficient transfer of scientific findings into the further development of diagnostics and therapy guarantees that oncology patients receive state-of-the-art treatment. The Würzburg Tumor Registry provides the basic data for research and also makes a significant contribution to quality assurance.
