PainScouts: Hands-on Classes

We regularly offer the young scientists from the CRU 5001 the opportunity to improve their scientific skills through our Hands-on Classes. The aim of this programm is to provide practical experience in a wide range of scientific techniques related to pain research.

The three-hour program – 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. – includes the following offers on Friday, February 23th, 2024:

  • Introduction to the Python programming language for life sciences
  • Machine learning: basics and examples
  • Pharmacotherapy: compliance and drug safety in pain treatment
  • Pain behavioural tests: troubleshooting

Courses are conceived and delivered by the principal investigators and/or scientific experts from their respective working groups.

All sessions will be face-to-face and held in English (unless explicitly stated otherwise) promoting an interactive and immersive learning environment for all participants.

NervClub symposium in Würzburg

This year, the annual conference of the NervClub will take place in Würzburg, focusing on Neuropathic Pain.

Numerous renowned speakers will participate in the symposium on Friday, February 23. The event will run from 8:00 a.m. to approximately 5:30 p.m. featuring short presentations that provide insights into the latest developments in science and practice related to the theme. The venue is the Rudolf-Virchow-Zentrum, House D15, Josef-Schneider-Straße 2 in Würzburg.

Participation in the event is free and possible on short notice, although registration is encouraged. For further questions, information regarding travel, or accommodation, please feel free to contact Doris Solymosi.

Update on Service Project Z "Blood Platform" and information regarding the CRU 5001 Summer School 2024


Prof. Alexander Brack, MD, Deputy Clinic Director and Senior Consultant at the Anaesthesiology Department, Intensive Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Pain Therapy at University Hospital of Würzburg will give an update on “Blood Platform” of biosample analyses and biosamples in Project Z. The Clinician Scientist Ann-Kristin Reinhold, MD, will also present her results on the same topic.

Update on project 3 "Neuropathic pain caused by anti-Caspr2 autoantibodies: pathogenesis and regression" and on service project Z "Skin Platform"

of the Clinical Research Unit 5001.

The project leaders Prof. Dr. Carmen Villmann, Institute of Clinical Neurobiology, and Dr. Kathrin Doppler, MD, from the Department of Neurology  of the University Hospital of Würzburg will speak on the topic of "Neuropathic pain caused by anti-Caspr2 autoantibodies: pathogenesis and regression" from Project 3 of the Clinical Research Unit5001. The doctoral student Patrik Greguletz will also present his results on the same topic.

Prof. Nurcan Üçeyler, MD, Senior Physician at the Department of Neurology of the University Hospital of Würzburg will give an update on Service Project Z "Neuron cultures using induced pluripotent stem cells" (iPSCs). Dr. Julia Grüner will also present her results on this topic.

CRU 5001 Jour Fixe: Update on project 2 "Genetic neuropathies" and on service project Z "Skin"

Update on project 2 "Genetically determined neuropathies" and on service project Z "iPSCs" of the Clinical Research Unit 5001.

The two project leaders Univ.-Prof. Mirko Pham, MD, Clinic Director of Neuroradiology and Univ.-Prof. Cordula Matthies, MD, Deputy Clinic Director of Neurosurgery at the University Hospital Würzburg, will speak on the topic of "Gene-based neuropathies". The Clinician Scientists Eva Rampeltshammer, MD, and Simon Weiner, MD, as well as the doctoral student Annsophie Amann will also present their results on this topic.

Prof. Claudia Sommer, MD, Speaker of the CRU 5001 and Senior Consultant at the Department of Neurology of the University Hospital of Würzburg, together with Dr. Aikaterini Papagianni, MD, and the doctoral student Yuying Jin will give an update on the topic “Skin Platform” of the Service Project “Biosample-Analysis and Biosamples”.

Update on Project 6 "Function of the adhesion GPCR CIRL in pain perception and pain relief" and Project 1 "Bortezomib-induced polyneuropathy" of the Clinical Research Unit 5001.

Project leaders Univ.-Prof. Dr. Robert Kittel, Institute of Biology at the University of Leipzig, and Univ.-Prof. Heike Rittner, MD, Head of the Pain Centre at the University Hospital of Würzburg, will speak on the topic "Function of the adhesion GPCR CIRL in pain perception and pain relief" from Project 6 of the Clinical Research Unit 5001. The postdoc Dr. Mareike Selcho, and the doctoral students Mariam Atalla and Aishwarya Aravamudhan will also present their results on the same topic.

Speakers on the topic of "Bortezomib-induced polyneuropathy" are the project leaders Univ.-Prof. Martin Kortüm, holder of the Chair for Translational Myeloma Research, and Univ.-Prof. Claudia Sommer, Senior Consultant at the Department of Neurology of the University Hospital of Würzburg.
