Regulatory CAR-T Cells for the Treatment of Heart Failure Following a Myocardial Infarction

In Project C6, we are developing a cellular immunotherapy to treat chronic heart failure following a myocardial infarction. While chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cells have already achieved therapeutic breakthroughs in hematology, their potential for treating inflammatory diseases has hardly been explored to date.

Our approach utilizes regulatory T cells (Tregs) as key mediators of immune regulation. By equipping these cells with a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR), we aim to tailor them specifically to the needs of damaged heart tissue following a myocardial infarction.

The goal of the project is to specifically modulate the excessive inflammatory response following a myocardial infarction, promote tissue healing, and thereby prevent the development of chronic heart failure. In the long term, this approach aims to open up new perspectives for the use of cellular immunotherapies in immune-mediated diseases.
