Further training to become a medical specialist

Prof. Dr. med. Jürgen Deckert as Medical Director of the Department of Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy (PPP) is fully authorized to provide further training according to the relevant further training regulations. The structured further training in the special psychotherapy part is accompanied by a curriculum oriented towards behavioural therapy. The further training section neurology is organised in close cooperation with the Department of Neurology.

Contents and schedule

A 60-month further training period is required for training as a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy. Training is provided by a rotation through the various workplaces and through structured further training courses within the department. The twelve-month further training period in neurology takes place in the Department of Neurology.
The following can be credited:

  • twelve months of child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy
  • twelve months of psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy
  • six months internal medicine
  • six months general medicine
  • six months neurosurgery
  • six months neuropathology

Further training as a specialist nurse

Since 2008, the two-year further training course "Nursing in Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy" is being offered at the University Hospital Würzburg. It begins every two years. The next start ist on1 January 2025. It is aimed at nursing staff who have already worked in psychiatry for at least six months. The further training is conducted according to the recommendations of the German Hospital Association (Deutsche Krankenhausgesellschaft, DKG) of 14/15 March 22.
