Translational Social Neuroscience Unit (Lead: Prof. Dr. Grit Hein) at the University Hospital Würzburg / Germany (Department of Psychiatry, Psychosomatic and Psychotherapy; Chair: Prof. Dr. Jürgen Deckert) is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow Position in Translational Social Neuroscience (f/m).
The Translational Social Neuroscience Unit has been recently established at the University of Würzburg as part of the Center of Mental Health. We investigates how social interactions shape human motivation, learning, and behavior, with the goal to improve the diagnosis and therapy of psychological disorders (e.g. anxiety disorders). Würzburg is a quaint and bustling university town, surrounded by vineyards, in the center of Germany.
Your challenge: To investigate the motivational basis of social behavior and/or the interaction between social motivation and learning, using functional magnetic resonance imaging and/ or physiological measures (heart rate, skin conductance) and behavioral measures (reaction time/ error rates). You will be offered an initial contract of two years that can be extended. Your salary and benefits will be based on the German TV-L regulations.
Your profile: We seek a candidate who has successfully finished her/his PhD research, and may already have held a postdoctoral position. Ideally, you should have considerable experience with social psychology and/or learning paradigms, and fMRI data analysis. Proficiency in software tools (e.g. MATLAB/R programming) is essential. Expertise in MVPA or other advanced modelling approaches (e.g. DCM), and fluency in English will be a big plus. You must be considerate and happy to work together with, and supervise, other lab members.
Your work environment: Our team and department provide a stimulating and nurturing environment with a team of experienced, driven scientists. You will be encouraged to develop and strengthen your own research profile, and to contribute to teaching international students in the Translational Neuroscience master program. Moreover, if interested, you will have a unique opportunity to combine research and clinical work or training.
The Center of Mental Health offers access to a broad variety of resources, including 3T and 7T fMRI research scanners, TMS, EEG, resources for High Throughput Genotyping, a Virtual-Reality-Lab (CAVE), and access to patients with different psychiatric conditions.
Application: Applications (including a motivation letter, CV, list of publications, and contact names of 2–3 references) should be sent as a single PDF file to Prof. Dr. Grit Hein (Hein_G@) with [postdoc TransSocNeuro] in the subject line.
The position is on offer from 1 April 2018. The successful candidate will be offered an initial contract of two years that can be extended. Your salary and benefits will be based on the German TV-L regulations.
Closing date: 19.02.2018
