This course introduces participants to effective scientific project management using the Project Canvas framework. Participants will learn how to plan, structure, and communicate their projects clearly, identifying key goals, resources, and potential risks. The session combines practical guidance with interactive exercises, enabling participants to apply the Project Canvas directly to their own research projects.

This course provides participants with the essential skills to design and deliver clear, engaging, and impactful scientific presentations. The course combines practical insights with hands-on exercises, focusing on both preparation and delivery. By the end of the course, participants will have received personalized feedback and will be better equipped to present their research with confidence.

The first part involves interactive work on which neural structures and systems of nociception can be examined in patients. In the second part, common and experimental examination techniques such as clinical examination of pain patients, quantitative sensory testing, electrical stimulation for examining unmyelinated nerve fibers, and axon reflex erythema are carried out in practical exercises. A brief theoretical introduction and concluding reflection on personal experiences will be offered for each technique.

In this course students will learn how to measure and interpret pain behavior in rodents through practical examples and key testing methods. This hands-on course focuses on reliable behavioral assays used in preclinical pain studies.

Students will be introduced to basic methods in immunofluorescence. The course focuses on labeling different markers for diverse structures, such as nerve fibers or immune cells found in the skin. Preparation of sections and staining will be performed. Afterwards, the stained skin sections will be analyzed using a fluorescence microscope.

This course will address the opportunities and pitfalls of visualizing scientific research. From a conceptual as well as practical point of view, participants will learn how to optimize illustrations for presentations, posters and manuscripts.

In this workshop the participants will learn some of the basics of electrophysiological barrier analysis using an Ussing chamber. Furthermore, they will virtually join an experiment of Two-path impedance spectroscopy. Using the gained data they will determine the para- and transcellular barrier and permeability properties.
