Menghuan Chen

Menghuan Chen is a postdoctoral researcher in the Translational Social Neuroscience Group at the Center for Mental Health. She obtained her PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience in 2026 from the Department of Psychology at the University of Würzburg, working in the research group of Prof. Matthias Gamer and within RTG2660. In her doctoral thesis, she investigated how people make decisions in motivationally conflicting situations, particularly how rewards and threats are integrated to guide approach-avoidance behavior, using multimodal approaches (e.g., behavioral tasks, eye-tracking, psychophysiology, and fMRI).

She is currently investigating social learning and the social transmission of empathy using reinforcement learning frameworks. Broadly, her research aims to provide insights into the cognitive and neural mechanisms linking social experience, motivation, and interpersonal behavior.
